It's really got nothing to do with small furry mammals, but this years AAAI Squirrel AI Award was for writing AI and ML that allowed people to undertand why the outcome was reached. Duke University computer scientist Cynthia Rudin was awarded $1,000,000 for pioneering socially responsible AI.
Remember at school during math you were always told to show your working so you could get some marks if the answer was wrong?
Well- that is what they are now asking of the most powerful computers in the world - show your working!!
And it is about time. The number of times I have presented powerful insights from an AI in business and asked to explain a single prediction in a resuts set of thousands is too many to count - I wish I had this kind of backup then.
